On July 1st we will celebrate the tenth anniversary of our Philosophical Park on one of the most beautiful spots on one of the most beautiful islands, Capri, a bit outside of Napoli.
The preparations take all my time. Thus you here only get a reference to a new book, the best I have seen on our “economic crisis” and also an invitation to come and join us in an “open house” or, better, and “open park”.

The book by Simon Johnson and James Kwak is 13 BANKERS, the Wall Street Takeover and the next Financial Meltdown. It was published a few months ago by Pantheon Books in New York. It has been much appreciated by several leading experts for its very good summary of the events that have led up to the present turmoil. Like Emma Rothschild, in her excellent longer history of Economic Sentiments (from Harvard UP 2001), Johnson and Kwak also show how the crisis concentrates power and wealth in ever fewer hands of the sort of males that 25 years ago were baptized into “adrenalinomaniacs”. Truly interesting in this book is the last chapter. Here the authors try to explain why what has happened has happened. Which they quite honestly say is very difficult. And their own solutions are, unfortunately, not very convincing.. Twice they refer, on pages 213 and 220, to people who think that the weakness in the banking system is but “a fact of nature that must be accepted”.
To me this “fact of nature” was extra interesting as it fits perfectly well with my own idea in “Lärobok för 90-talet”, about a blind deterministic history giving us ever fewer truly sovereign rulers who rule over ever more human beings. This is a central issue that I will take up on the 2nd of July, as hinted at in the invitation below.
The book, in six languages inside one cover, that will be given to the participants in the celebration, is in English named Challenges for Future Generations. If you cannot come and join in the “open house” but would like to have the book, drop me an e-mail to adler.karlsson@capri.it.

on the 2nd of July at 6.45 P.M.,
when two lectures will be given:
The first is by the expert on “pandemics”, Uppsala University,
professor Björn Olsen. His theme is:

The second lecture by Prof. Gunnar Adler-Karlsson
will summarize some 50 years of studies of warfare:
